If you go travelling to Nicaragua one of the musts is Volcano Boarding en Cerro Negro. It is one of the youngest volcanos in Central America and for me it is how really a volcano should ideally look like. Authentically black, it is out of ash and gravel and you can smell sulfur if you come closer to the crater.
Well, after climbing up the 728 m “black hill” the big adventure of Volcano Boarding is expecting you. The popularity of this sport has been increasing since 2005 an Australian was discovering it. There is also a accurate saying about Volcano Boarding: Volcano Boarding is like having sex the first time – you don´t know what you do and after some seconds it´s done. 🙂
Recently a client and blogger was just recording his breathtaking ride with a Gopro. Slightly you can get an impression here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms9yMzIHA-M&feature=youtu.be.
It is definitely an upcoming trend that even the Spanish Television will report about it. In my first day of working as a guide they showed up in the entrance and made an interview with me and some other clients of us about the popularity of volcano boarding. Not only the Spanish Television talks about, also New York Times has already been on the active volcano: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/19/travel/19headsup.html?_r=0 It is probably a travel worth it not only because it is on everyone´s lips.
